Typical uses for hot rolled steel

Our hot rolled steel sheets come in widths of between 1000mm and 2000mm which can be used in a variety of industries ranging from quarrying, agriculture and engineering to the construction industry and ship building.

These industries utilise our steel stock for a number of reasons ranging from steel ballast weights for cranes for balancing purposes or a heavy plate (base plates) could be used for structural support for the foundations of buildings.

Hot rolling is a mill process which involves rolling the steel at high temperatures of over 1700 degrees Fahrenheit which enables it to be shaped and formed easily. Hot rolled steel can be made on a much larger scale and is cheaper than cold rolled steel as it can be processed faster mainly due to hot rolled steel not needing to be used in situations where precise shapes and tolerances are required.

Hot rolling is used mainly to produce sheet metal or simple cross-sections, such as rail tracks. Other typical uses for hot-rolled metal can range from truck frames and agricultural equipment to metal buildings and guard rails used for streets and motorways.
